Program
Sensible
Recovery Systems
currently offers the
following services and
programs:
Information about
alcohol and drug
abuse and chemical dependency is
offered at no
cost to callers, or,
individuals who visit
our counseling offices
during our normal
hours of operation.
Screening and
evaluation is utilized
to help determine
the extent of
an individual’s alcohol
and other drug
use, and, related
problems. Screening is
the process by
which a client
is determined appropriate and
eligible for admission.
Screening and evaluation
is a tool
used to help
determine a course of
action to take,
given an individual’s needs
and characteristics, and,
then matching the individual to
available resources in
the community.
As part
of the admissions process, clients
receive a comprehensive assessment.
Assessment is a
collaborative and on-going
process of evaluation
involving the counselor,
the client, and,
others, in the
gathering and interpreting of
information used in
the development and
revision of the
treatment plan. The
assessment process is
also used to
evaluate progress toward
the achievement of
goals defined during
this process, regarding
the client’s identified
strengths, weaknesses, problems,
and, needs, and,
potential hindrances to
successful counseling and
treatment outcomes.
All clients
admitted to a
counseling and treatment
program participate in
the development of
a personalized individual
treatment and recovery
plan (ITRP). This
is the process
where the client,
and, the primary counselor,
collaborate and discuss,
and, further develop
desired treatment outcomes.
The treatment plan
addresses substance use
disorders, as well
as, other identified
issues related to
treatment progress, including
relationships with family
and significant others,
employment, education, spirituality, health
concerns, and, legal
needs. Together, the
Counselor, and,
the client, set
and establish goals,
objectives, and, strategies,
for achieving the
goals.
Clients who
require services that are not offered
by, or, are
beyond the scope
of, Sensible Recovery Systems,
are referred to
the appropriate programs,
agencies and organizations, depending
on their individual
needs. Referrals are
sometimes made during
counseling and treatment, and,
are often made
at the time
of discharge. Sensible Recovery Systems
maintains a Referral
Notebook keeping it
current so that
the process of
identifying appropriate services,
and, providing the
information to the
client, can be
performed without undue
delay, enabling the client
to access the
referral (s) made on
his/her behalf, as
soon as possible.
DISCHARGE PLANNING and DISCHARGE
Discharge planning
occurs at the
beginning, and, near
the completion of
counseling and treatment. The purpose
of discharge planning
is to develop
a plan of
action that will
help sustain and reinforce recovery.
The discharge process
formally terminates the
counselor/client
relationship, and, evaluates
level of progress,
and, prognosis, contingent upon continued involvement in
recommendations made by
the primary counselor.
Follow-up
is a service provided by Sensible Recovery Systems in order to determine program effectiveness. A Sensible Recovery
Systems staff member contacts the client sixty (60) days following discharge,
again at six (6) months,and
again at one (1) year following
discharge. The information obtained during these contacts, helps Sensible
Recovery Systems to continually improve its programs.
The Anger
Management Program is
offered to adolescents
referred by the
courts, school counselors, and, through
self-referral, who have
been involved in
aggressive behaviors such
as fighting, verbally
disrespecting their parents,
teachers, or, other
authority figures, and,
who have expressed
an interest
in learning how
to control and
manage this behavior.
The program admits
adolescents 13-19. The
Anger Management Program
is an experiential and curriculum-based, twelve
(12) hour program
facilitated by Certified
Anger Resolution Therapists.
The special curriculum,
geared especially for this
population, explores sources
of anger, forgiveness of
self and others,
relaxation techniques, taking
responsibility for actions
and behaviors, etc.
Participants attend four
(4) consecutive sessions,
Saturday mornings, 9:00am - 12:00 noon.
FAMILY EDUCATION
and COUNSELING
PROGRAM
Clients, and,
their family members,
participate in family education and
counseling on at
least a weekly
basis. These sessions
are about one
and a half
hours (1 1/2) in length,
and, provide a
structured forum for
discussions on: communication, setting
limits, goal setting,
understanding substance abuse
and chemical dependency,
enabling, co-dependency, etc.
This program
is facilitated by
Qualified Credentialed Counselors,
including LCDC’s, who
have the documented
education, and, demonstrated special
experience and training
in family systems
counseling, along with
expertise and experience
in substance abuse
and chemical dependency.
Clients, and/or, family
members, requiring therapy
on issues outside
the scope and
training of the
Licensed Chemical Dependency
Counselor (LCDC), are
referred to a
Qualified Mental Health
Professional, such as,
a Licensed Master
Social Worker (LMSW),
Licensed Marriage and
Family Therapist (LMFT),
Licensed Professional Counselor
(LPC), etc.
Intensive Outpatient
Counseling is a highly structured
comprehensive counseling program
for adolescents, 13-19, whose
drug, alcohol abuse
or chemical dependency,
has seriously impacted
major areas of
their lives, such
as, trouble in
school, family problems
due to client’s
drug/alcohol use, legal
problems for drug
possession, and/or, related
illegal behaviors, and,
a host of
psycho-social problems, e.g.,
lying, cheating, stealing,
fighting, etc.
Clients recommended
for this program
are those who
do not require
medical or psychiatric intervention, and,
do not require
detoxification services, but,
who do require,
as evidenced by
the comprehensive psycho-social assessment,
a more structured
and more intensive
level of care
due to their individual maladaptive
patterns of substance
abuse or chemical
dependency.
The Sensible
Recovery Systems Intensive
Outpatient Program involves
up to fifteen
(15) hours of
client participation a
week, including: three
(3) intensive outpatient
group sessions per
week, two (2)
individual counseling sessions
per week, and,
one (1) family
counseling session per
week. The age appropriate curriculum involves
up to twelve (12)
weeks of chemical
dependency education and
life skills training.
Each chemical dependency
education or life
skills session is followed by
group process counseling. Random
drug testing is
performed in order
to promote honesty in
treatment, and, to
help evaluate additional
needs of the
client. Clients who
test non-negative (positive
for drugs) may,
for example, be
referred for residential
treatment services.
Goals for
this program include:
abstinence, commitment to
long-term recovery, increased
self-esteem, improved family
cohesiveness, improved performance
and attendance at
school, improved communication skills,
development of a
personal plan of
action for staying
Aclean and sober@, and,
a commitment from
the client to
avoid high-risk situations,
e.g., old Afriends@, etc.
The average
length of stay in
this program is
ninety (90) days.
This program is
facilitated by Licensed Chemical
Dependency Counselors and
Registered Counselor Interns.
These sessions are facilitated on
Mondays, Wednesdays, and,
Thursdays, 5:00pm - 8:00pm.
The Relapse
Prevention Program, is devoted
to the special
care needs of
clients who have
completed a residential treatment
stay, or, an
intensive outpatient program,
and, still need to
strengthen their recovery
and relapse prevention
skills. Designed to help
clients maintain clean
and sober living,
the program focuses
on cue extinction,
relaxation, and, a commitment to
a new, different,
and, better way
of life. The
Relapse Prevention Group is facilitated
by a Qualified
Credentialed Counselor (QCC).
This group meets once
a week on
Tuesday evenings, 5:30 - 7:00pm.
It is
important to address mental
health problems in
conjunction with substance
abuse disorders because
this particular population is
especially prone to
recurring relapse, and, tends
to progressively deteriorate into
more serious patterns
of chemical dependency and
addiction.
The Co-occurring Psychiatric
Substance Disorder (COPSD) program is
for clients, ages
13-19, who have been
identified through the
initial screening and
evaluation process, as
having a potential
mental health problem
in addition to
their substance use.
When this occurs,
special services, provided
by Qualified Mental
Health Professionals (QMHP’s), such
as Licensed Master
Social Workers (LMSW’s),
Licensed Marriage and
Family Therapists (LMFT’s), Licensed
Professional Counselors (LPC’s), etc.,
are implemented. A
mental health assessment is
performed and evaluated, and,
appropriate services are
provided to the
client, if indicated.
If the client
requires services that
are not available
through Sensible Recovery
Systems, the client
is referred to
a mental health facility, that
is qualified and
authorized, to provide
such services.
